Everything Changed, Then Changed Again

15 years ago: I was a freshman in high school and I thought I was awesome. I wasn’t awesome, but I was a cheerleader.

10 years ago: I lived in Idaho where I was struggling through my sophomore year of college, trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life.

5 years ago: I had only been living in Monroe for a few months. I was working at a bank, making next-to nothing. I was so excited to be living here, around so many great people.

1 year ago: I was training for a marathon, trying to learn how to speak Thai, and I had just heard about some guy named Stephen who lived in California.

Yesterday: I took the day off to speak at the Rotary Club one last time and spent the rest of the day packing box after box in preparation for The Big Move.

Awkward Silence

It appears that I have pretty much stopped writing these days. I don’t blog much, I don’t e-mail much, and other than thank-you notes, I sure don’t send any letters. My life has just been weird lately. In fact, I don’t even remember what “normal” is like. I’m in transition everywhere I go: my house is full of packed boxes, stacks of things to be packed, and empty boxes waiting to be filled. My worldly belongings will be shipped across the country in less than two weeks, then I’ll be living out of a suitcase. I’ll be staying with friends for the four weeks after that. The job I used to love is very tough right now as I’ve become the trainer for the two new people. I won’t even get into that - I can make it four more weeks. I’ll be married in less than six weeks, which of course will change everything: a new relationship (which of course brings other family/friend relationships with it and changes the ones I already have), a new home in a new state, a new job (eventually)…I look forward to finding out what the new “normal” is like. I’ll be very glad to establish a routine again. Hopefully then, I’ll get back to writing - back to communicating.

After my stuff is moved, I’m hoping I’ll have a little bit of down time to complete all the to-do lists I have lying around, let go of some stress, and spend some quality time with my friends and family before I have to say goodbye for a while.

I Told You I Don't Have an Accent!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Looking Up

Last week, nothing seemed to be coming together for me: the wedding invitations I had ordered almost a month ago were still wrong after several proofs, the wedding bands ordered a month ago were not in yet (which wouldn't have been so bad except my engagement ring was at the jewelers for over 5 weeks and I missed it!), and then the plumbing at my house was going crazy. Add to that the seemingly endless flight to LA last weekend - including a layover in Atlanta (conveniently not located between Louisiana and California), a half-mile run through the Atlanta airport in high heels, a 45 minute wait on the tarmac at LAX, and luggage that didn't make the connection in ATL...it was a long week.
Thankfully, things are looking up this week. The plumbing was fixed over the weekend and today, I finally got the proof for the invitations. They're still not exactly to my liking, but I don't have another 10 days to wait for another proof, then wait for them to be printed. Hopefully, I'll have them in my hands next week. I also got the rings in today and the lady at the post office was nice enough to tell me where to come after the window was closed so I could get them today instead of waiting until tomorrow. My band is exactly what I wanted, too, which is great considering the fact that I only described it to the jeweler in an e-mail.
I also decided to treat myself to a pedicure today. I've been telling myself I would get one when my toes had recovered from January's marathon. We'll they're still not quite back to normal, but I decided today was the day. The last time I had a pedicure was when Emily was expecting Samson (three years ago?)...it's been a while and my feet needed it. What a luxury.
I'm off to LA one more time on Friday, then Stephen and I have to somehow make it 5 weeks without seeing each other. This will not be fun. I'll try not to think about that now and just enjoy the weekend.
