Don't You Love it When

...your friends have a new baby girl?

...your long-awaited iTrip arrives in the mail?

...you try a fruit you've never had before and think it's pretty tasty?

...you have busy and productive day and can go to bed tired and content?

...someone recommends a book to you and you really enjoy it?

...someone puts a bunch of vague links in their blog post so you have to either click on the links or have no clue what they're talking about?

Don't You Hate it When

...you make a big pot of soup because it sounds like something good to eat for lunch all week, but it turns out to be not nearly as good as you had hoped?

...you get yogurt on your pants?

...you hope there's a new episode of House coming on, but instead it's the State of the Union Address?

...it's absolutely gorgeous outside, but you have to stay inside and work?

...you file your taxes and think you're hot stuff because you filed your taxes so early and then you realize you have a 1099 you forgot to include so you have to file an ammendment?

Mmmm...Yogalates! I'll Take Two.

Yesterday at exactly 5:00 pm, the world seemed to turn against me. You know that feeling where no matter what you try to do or who you encounter, things just aren't going to go the right way? Yeah, that was me. So I did was any self-respecting girl fighting the universe would do: I went to Pilates class. And actually, it seemed to work - well at least it gave me time to dwell on my aching legs and my burning abs (and the fact that I shouldn't have slacked off on doing Pilates a few months ago) instead of the obnoxious traffic and the fact that I can never leave work on time when I'm trying to get somewhere and don't even get me started on *deleted rant here*. The effect of this distraction has not been complete, though I can still feel that ab-burn (but only when I'm inhaling or exhaling) and the aching legs are still a bit achy. The world has been trying to get me again today, but tonight I will combat it with a force more powerful than Pilates: (drum roll, please) Yoga!

Delightfully Dreary

Someone must have been praying for rain. Yesterday was the perfect rainy day: chilly, but not too cold, with a constant, steady downpour - heavier than a drizzle, but far from a flash-flood. It was the kind of day that you always wish you could just stay in bed and read or watch movies all day. The best part of yesterday was that I had the day off and I could stay in bed all day. I didn't. But I could have. It's a nice option to have. Though I did get out and run a few errands, I was able to spend most of the day at home doing next to nothing. It was magical.
I'm back at the office today, of course. I'm afraid I'll have to work an entire Five Day Week next week. It's been a while, but I think I can do it.

New (To Me) Music

Since Christmas, I've gotten several new albums and purchased quite a few songs and albums from iTunes and Musicmatch. Call me old fashioned, but I do still like to have the actual CD, not so much for the CD itself, but for the liner notes. Anyway, I think I mentioned before that I got Sufjan Stevens Illinois. I dig it. On the first listen-through, I couldn't understand what all the hype was about, but now I can't get enough of it. Since it has so many (22) songs on it, it's almost like having two albums and I've barely listened tothe second half because I like the first half so darn much. I'm especially enjoying Decatur, or, A Round of Applause for Your Stepmother! and Casimir Pulaski Day.
I also purchased Iron & Wine's Woman King EP. I like it all, but I'm especially into the title track right now. Because I liked Iron & Wine's cover of Such Great Heights on the Garden State soundtrack, I bought The Postal Service EP Such Great Heights. It's too early to tell my level of appreciation for The Postal Service, but it will definitely be higher than my level of appreciation for the postal service. I also got The Decemberists 5 Songs EP (which has 6 songs on it). It's an older release, but I wasn't sure I wanted to commit to a whole album before I knew what I was getting into. I've barely listened to it, but I think I'll like it.
I also bought the new album The Jaws of Life from a band called Fine China. I've listened through it twice so far and I dig it.
Along with a few other individual songs, like a few numbers from Cake and a couple of items by some trendy feminists (because I like to sing along with either angst-ridden and/or overly-happy women) I think I'm set on the music front for a while.

Sorry. Wrong Answer.

If you are ever in a hurry to get somewhere and you get in your car and ask yourself a question, "Oh, I probably did," is not the response we were looking for. The correct answer is, "I think I'll go check (just to make sure)."

This is especially true when the question is, "Did I remember to take that can of Diet Coke out of the freezer?"

Behold: the voice of experience.

Lurk is a Funny Word

Okay, people. They say it's National De-lurking Week, which means if you lurk on my blog but never leave comments, you should do it now. You know, just for fun. I am, of course, the queen of blog lurkers, so if you're shy about it, I understand. It does kind of freak me out though when I see on my sitemeter that people from around the country have googled my name and I have no clue who they are, so give me some peace o' mind: leave a comment!

Because Even Though Blog Quizzes Are Ubiquitous, They're Still Kind of Fun

You Belong in London

A little old fashioned, and a little modern.

A little traditional, and a little bit punk rock.

A unique woman like you needs a city that offers everything.

No wonder you and London will get along so well.

What City Do You Belong In?

To Do

A Vague List of Goals.

*Write out more concrete goals.
*Exercise more. A lot more.
*Stop eating so much junk food.
*Learn to enjoy black coffee.
*Read more books.
*Include some books that are not fiction (or fiction-like non-fiction).
*One word: Budget.
*Do things that I wouldn't normally do.
*Volunteer.
*Random acts of kindness.
*Stop and smell the proverbial roses.
*Listen to music - while doing nothing else - just listening.
*Work harder.
*Let go.
*Take pictures & figure out a way to access a darkroom.
*Get a new hobby.
*Listen.
*Be thankful.
*Fulfill goals: keep them all year (and beyond).
