I've Been Tagged and We All Know That Once One Has Been Tagged, One Must Comply With the Order

From Lacey:

"Once you are tagged, you must post six things about yourself which are either weird, unusual, habitual, or are just plain fun to hear about (and true!). Once you post these things in your blog, you must gently* tag six to ten others in the Xanga world, [I think we can safely substitute "blog" there] who then, in the spirit of not wussing out, must read words like these and follow the same rules you did".

You probably already know these things.

1. I dye my hair. I've been doing it for years and I can't quit. I try to stick to a color very similar to my natural color. I've been very tempted to go red, but I can't bring myself to do it, mostly because of the initial shock, but also because I'm afraid I would really like it and feel compelled to keep doing it, which could get pricey.

2. I have an irrational fear of being perceived as uncool. I say it's irrational because I already know that a.) I'm NOT cool, I never have been and probably never will be and b.) it doesn't matter in the least.

3. If I had rollover minutes on my cellphone - say 1000 minutes per month available for the last 5 years, I would have approximately 57,892 left. I shouldn't even have a cellphone, but it's all about the safety. Even though it doesn't actually keep me safer, I feel like it does. I guess it's just a grown-up security blanket.

4. I type pretty fast for someone who doesn't know how to type.

5. Sometimes I'm afraid I'm too cold-hearted, but I'm also afraid of not being cold-hearted. And I don't care.

6. I occasionally go to the movies by myself. I used to feel very self-conscious and embarrassed about it and would only do it in a deperate attempt to avoid particular people. Now, I don't do it often, but when I do, I kind of like it, even though I try not to talk about it too much because it makes other people uncomfortable. It's really not bad, though, but you have to hold your head high to pull it off.

I'm not tagging anyone. If you want to do it though, it's all you. Who am I to stop you?

I used to go to movies and restaurants by myself all the time. It's a nice break from social demands and sometimes it gives you a chance to just relax - and maybe even think a bit.

It definitely isn't usual though. I think that across four years of weekly visiting a variety of restaurants by myself, only once did I spy another solitary diner (this, of course, doesn't count fast-food restaurants).

Note to self:

Do not send tag surveys to Christin.

First of all, Christin, you are the COOLEST. Second, going to movies by yourself is the best thing ever. I've probably been to, oh, 5 million or so. The best is when you go to a smaller movie by yourself and you're the only one in the theater and can act like a total jackass, like when I saw Office Space. How awesome was I?

Christin, drop the cellphone and get a gun...just think of all the money you'll save. Oh, and dye your hair red, that way all you'll have to do is just think about the gun being in your possesion, the would be assailant will get "the redhead has a gun vibe" and he'll run screaming like a baby...he'll probably reform himself after such an experience. Heck, you can probably afford the red hair dye since you won't have the cell contract anymore. You know, come to think of it, the gun can apply to items 1 through 6...wow.

Christin, you're the best around...

And if you're ever down, imagine Josh watching Office Space alone in a darkened theatre. That'll bring a smile to your face.

The Dane - I'm glad I'm not the only one who has done such things. I haven't done the restaurant thing alone (unless I was travelling). Coffee shop, yes, but lots of people do that.

Lacey - I don't mind being tagged (I'm flattered), I just don't know anybody else to tag who would do it.

Josh - as Emily said: the thought of you in a dark theater watching Office Space alone is too funny! You may have been alone, but I bet people could hear you laughing two theaters away! Priceless.

James - ROFL! Red-head-with-a-gun would be a new, cool persona for me. I'll have to consider it. I'd definitely have to get that convertible I've been wanting to complete the mystique.

Emily - thanks!

Yeah, it was a dollar theater in Indy, I was taking a break from washing windows in my college years, it was the middle of the day, and the whole complex (let alone my theater) was pretty much deserted. I had never even heard of the movie before, but I noticed Jennifer Aniston was in it, and that the Beavis and Butthead guy directed it, so I figured, what the heck. I'm guessing they heard me across the street.

Going to movies alone is very cool. I prefer it, actually, and do it all the time. I've done the restaurant thing as well. After all, I'd been single for years and I figured I might as well feel as special as anybody else. Besides, the cute waiters try to pick you up by buying dessert. LOL

OCD confession time: I had to find out what that asterisk was about in the tag quote, so I trudged backwards through Xanga after Xanga one night and found the source. Turns out, it was first used as a footnote indicator by Rob Evans, a 54-year-old gay Christian man in the UK:

Now you know.

And I thought I was OCD! That's a whole new level I can't even begin to compete with.
