Here are a few pictures of the new place:
This is the front of the house. Obviously. I really like the little glassed-in porch.
This is the living room. It looks kind of boring in this picture, but I think it works with the rest of the house.
This is the living room from a different angle that shows a little more personality.
The house came with insanely bright yellow countertops, so we painted it green (instead of the awful mauve it was before). I like the way it turned out - very cheerful.
This is my room. Check out the shutters! Both bedrooms are full of them. (Five windows in my room alone.) Unfortunately, some of them are painted closed because, as the landlord matter-of-factly told us: they were painted by a crackhead. Anyway, I was going to paint my room white again, but decided to go with a (conservative) color.

Posted by: emily at June 17, 2006 09:37 PMVery cute place. It looks warm and inviting...as a home should.
Posted by: hollie at June 18, 2006 11:31 AMI like it a lot! Very cute!
Posted by: kristen at June 18, 2006 07:44 PMWOW! Nice, nice, nice! Adrienne and I have officially gone insane as we are very heavily considering the purchase of this incredibly gorgeous old home with no backyard to speak of and in a "transitional" neighborhood with "those people," and with the most amazing wrap-around porch I've ever set foot upon. We're gonna win the crazy war if we go forward with this ;-)
Posted by: brad at June 19, 2006 12:47 PMThat is a good-looking house, Brad. Nice use of the phrase "transitional neighborhood". Ha! Somebody's gotta help move the transitioning along. Might as well be you!
Posted by: Christin at June 19, 2006 01:32 PMThat's sort of been what we've been thinking..who's moving in if we wouldn't? our practical business senses and our idealistic optimism have been at war within our members....the CPA in me is like "Bad investment, bad investment!" The overprotective parent in me is thinking "No yard, and your kids are as good as kidnapped (in Ruston, sure.)...bad school district (since we were such proponents of any public school to begin with)" The deacon in me says, "Awesome place to have the whole church over every weekend! Great access to the needy - we'll finally rub shoulders with 'those people' we've been trying to reach. That was tough in the insulated, affluent north side of the tracks." The extrovert in me is saying, "Wow, it'll be THE place for a glass of Shiraz on the porch for anyone who wants it!" I see so much hope, potential, beauty, risk, and possibly danger...but we've checked the police records for past crime activity - nothing to speak of at all...and we've investigated the last few sales prices - have always appreciated a bit.
So now the outdoors issue with kids...the only real issue left...do I want quasi-urban kids (I mean as "urban" as middle class Ruston gets) ?? Will Stephen "need" room to run around all over the place? Is that overrated? Don't people just deal elsewhere?
We're going to see it again...and we'll blog about it.
Posted by: brad at June 19, 2006 05:12 PMLove the new place. Can't wait to see it when we get into town!!! By the way, I'm inviting myself over;-)
