Observations on a Good Friday

*It is Good Friday. Good Friday, of course, has many meanings, none of which should be "I deserve to be off work today", yet I feel as though I'm being cheated by having to work on a federal holiday. That is what banking has done to me: given me a sense of entitlement and a bizarre notion that Federal Holidays are Oh So Important and equating Good Friday with Columbus Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. But I guess I should have to work today. Jesus did His hardest work on Good Friday.

*Today is Jean Day at work. Jean Day cracks me up. It's very "The Office". It's one of those things you have to do, though, when you work in an office: you must participate. I'm just as happy to wear an evening gown as I am to wear jeans, so I really don't care, but if I don't participate, I'm a big jerk. Plus, when it's Jean Day here, you have to donate $5.00 to the American Heart Association, so I'm a double jerk if I don't participate. It reminds me of Crazy Hat Day (etc) from high school. Good times.

*I haven't even had time this week to detail my wonderful weekend. I'll just put it this way: last weekend, I did two things that I've been wanting to do for a very long time and both were very rewarding, in their own ways. First: I went to Dallas to visit Annie and her dear family. It had been way too long since I'd seen them. It was so good to catch up. I must go more often. You should see her girls: they are beautiful. Second: On my way back from The Big D, I took a detour through Texarkana. Texarkana, as you may or may not know, is where I grew up. As I tend to feel all nastalgic at times, I've had a great desire to go to Texarkana and just drive around and see The Sights (as few as they may be). Well, I finally did it and the only phrase I can think of to describe my experience is not even a real phrase, but it's fitting: it surrealed me out. Yeah. That's right: Surrealed.

*I'm getting ready to go to Phoenix next week. I'm trying to do all those things that have to be done before going on a trip, like thinking about what to pack, making sure I have everything so I don't have to make last minutes rushes here and there, and most importantly: trying to get everything at work squared away so I can leave all my worries behind. So far, I'm pretty stressed about it. Hopefully, by end of day Tuesday, all will be right with the world and I'll be on my merry way.

*Have a Good Friday. (There's a double meaning in that.)

Why don't they have evening wear work days? Seems prejudicial to me...
