New (To Me) Music

Since Christmas, I've gotten several new albums and purchased quite a few songs and albums from iTunes and Musicmatch. Call me old fashioned, but I do still like to have the actual CD, not so much for the CD itself, but for the liner notes. Anyway, I think I mentioned before that I got Sufjan Stevens Illinois. I dig it. On the first listen-through, I couldn't understand what all the hype was about, but now I can't get enough of it. Since it has so many (22) songs on it, it's almost like having two albums and I've barely listened tothe second half because I like the first half so darn much. I'm especially enjoying Decatur, or, A Round of Applause for Your Stepmother! and Casimir Pulaski Day.
I also purchased Iron & Wine's Woman King EP. I like it all, but I'm especially into the title track right now. Because I liked Iron & Wine's cover of Such Great Heights on the Garden State soundtrack, I bought The Postal Service EP Such Great Heights. It's too early to tell my level of appreciation for The Postal Service, but it will definitely be higher than my level of appreciation for the postal service. I also got The Decemberists 5 Songs EP (which has 6 songs on it). It's an older release, but I wasn't sure I wanted to commit to a whole album before I knew what I was getting into. I've barely listened to it, but I think I'll like it.
I also bought the new album The Jaws of Life from a band called Fine China. I've listened through it twice so far and I dig it.
Along with a few other individual songs, like a few numbers from Cake and a couple of items by some trendy feminists (because I like to sing along with either angst-ridden and/or overly-happy women) I think I'm set on the music front for a while.

I must be out of the loop these days because I haven't a clue who any of these bands are. Am I loosing it?

I think you and Josh would like Iron & Wine. You should download their version of Such Great Heights and see what you think.

I'm with Lacey...out of the loop...or maybe I'm just old.

Lacey just doesn't know who she's listening to sometimes. We know Iron and Wine very well, especially that song, as well as the other bands you mentioned. I do my best to keep her up to date:)

Josh is right, but you see how he's so quick to take all the credit:)

I'm glad that you're in the loop (even if others are not), because the music you've listed is well worth listening to over and over and over. Age is no excuse for missing out on these bands...
