weekend update

friday:
*purchased plane ticket (!) to go to idaho in september. i may be a texan/louisianian, but I kind of think of moscow as my hometown.
*icecream with friends. people watching in west monroe=good times
*scrubbed the daylights out of kitchen floor until the early hours of the morning. i live for a clean kitchen floor. it is one of my (sometimes suppressed) obsessions in life.

saturday:
*saw charlie and the chocolate factory. delightfully disturbing. you know that phrase "gives me the willies" (as in: kind of freaks me out)? i'm pretty sure that phrase has something to do with willy wonka. creepy.
*game night. trivia was pursued. my brother and sister-in-law won (as is their custom).
*read more of the count of monte cristo. can't get enough of it. harry potter must wait in line behind the count. 300 pages to go.

sunday:
*refreshing as usual.
*dinner with family. always a pleasure.

Miscellaneous:
*busy week ahead, both at work and in general.
*speed dating (accompanied by friends): should i or shouldn't i? i figure that even if it's horrible, i could probably get a good story out of it.

Speed dating, YES. For those of us unable to experience it personally...vicariously through you is our only option. Think of the blogging potential! C'mon, you know you want to.

UJ says no way to speed dating. It seems horrible. Then again, you're right about the story part.
I can't believe you're shelving Potter. It's fantastic!! I guess though if you're in the middle of a book, it's tough to stop. Especially if it's the count. I'd just watch the movie though:)

What day did your shift key break?

You know, so many other people do all their blog posts sans caps, so I thought I'd give it a try. I don't like it. I won't do it again.

Hurrah, Christin! Glad to see you'll be headed to Moscow in September. I'm sure I'll have plenty to talk about by then. :) Oh, and it'll be good to see you this weekend. Remember about that Ben Folds cd...

Give speed dating a go. Later in life, you can proudly say "I did speed dating" like others say "I did the Latin Hustle." It's always good for a laugh.
I hope you're reading the unabridged copy of CoMC. I read the shorter version by mistake and have felt cheated ever since.

I'm pleased you have decided to come up in Sept.

MC Count is a real page turner, eh?

Posted by: Deacon Blues at July 20, 2005 05:39 PM

I'm loving The Count. I can't get enough of it! If only there were more hours in the day...

I'm looking forward to seeing you and the fam in September, DBlues. I'm excited about the trip.

I'm going speed dating, Em. Post to follow.

I'm going to try to finish the CD before I come to Nac, Daniel. See you then.

UJ, I saw the movie. It doesn't hold a candle to the book.

The movie is nothing like the book, and although I enjoyed the movie, is nowhere near as good as the book. Amy and I watched the movie and then read the book. If we had done it the other way around, I don't think I would have made it through the first ten minutes of the movie.

Wow, I didn't know people took me seriously any more. What started as an attempt to be humorous, making light of Americans who "just see the movie" to enjoy reading, turned to something else. However, I wholeheartedly agree with Blues and Christin. The movies are nowhere near the books. But they never are, are they? I always just maintain hope they can capture SOME of the essence of the books, and be worth watching. I'm worried about Goblet, though. I don't know if they can pull off, on screen, things like Veela, Cruciatus, and portkeys as effectively as they are written. But of course I'll be there with bells on, no matter what.

I understood what you were saying, UJ. Also, no matter how skeptical I may be about the Goblet being portrayed on the silver screen, I, too, will be there with the proverbial bells on.
