You Can't Make This Stuff Up

I went to the site of one of our local hospitals because I was wondering if a friend of mine had her baby yet. Turns out she hasn't (as far as I can tell), but I found something else. I started looking through the names of babies that had been born and wasn't able to look away. Many of the names are normal: lots of classic Elizabeths and Michaels, lots of more modern Chandlers, Madisons, Addisons, and Michaelas. Then you have the "one-of-a-kinds." I just had to list a few a the gems:

Jacob Alexander Keirnan Obi-Wan
MiSi Ma'lik
DeVante LeIsaac Dan'Shaun
Tooba Fatima
Gur'Derrious Demarzel
Dyi'Amond DeJaunaii
Mar'ckylin De'Qunn
Crystal Raine
Robertnaizshiah D'gail Renee
Journei Kam'Breiana
Ariadne Tamar
Kyara Da'Shaye & Kyera Ta'Shaye
Destynd Dermon O'Sha

Wow.

And I thought I'd done my daughter Bailey a disservice by spelling her middle name "Elisabeth" instead of the normal "Elizabeth." If she ever complains about it, maybe an archive of this post will still be around so I can remind her to count her blessings.

You've hit upon the highlight of a career in labor and delivery. Gotta love those "colorful" names!

I would imagine that the person who named their child buckminster Fuller had just taken a chemistry course or works in chemistry. There are much worse names that I've been told of. Such as some common cuss phrases pronounced differently.

The longer I live, the less I'm surprised by that sort of thing. I did find myself shaking my head as I read those names...I wish the parents would consider the child a bit more instead of just coming up with a name that is unique and stands out. I mean, what's wrong with the classic Elizabeths and Michaels?

I written insurance policies for many people with unique names. Of this list, the twins are just priceless. Thie thing about those names is that in a few years they'll all be called things like Pookie, Pep, and Tay-tay.

I wonder about that Obi-Wan kid. That ought to make Matt jealous.

As soon as I saw that Obi-Wan, I thought Matt must have something to do with it.
